Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce a partnership with the Maternal Fetal Medicine program at Alegent Creighton Health. This partnership brings three maternal fetal medicine specialists to Lincoln, expanding the hospital’s health care team of experts for moms-to-be as they navigate high-risk pregnancies. The team includes Dr. James Smith, Jr., Dr. Oormila P. Kovilam and Dr. Michael J. Barsoom. They join the neonatal intensive care team at Saint Elizabeth: Dr. B.J. Wilson, Dr. Bobbi Hawk and Dr. Rose Tan, and neonatal nurse practitioners Lorri Niemeyer, Sydnie Carraher, Jennifer Gehle, Becky Goodban and Erin Sicotte.
Drs. Smith, Kovilam and Barsoom are part of the Nebraska Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists clinic, located in the Saint Elizabeth Medical Office Building at 575 South 70th Street, Suite 435.
Saint Elizabeth is a high-risk perinatal center that includes a Level 3 NICU admitting over 350 infants annually. Over the last 10 years Saint Elizabeth has cared for nearly 600 infants with very low birth weight (as low as 1500 gms or about 3 pounds) and continues to meet and exceed short- and long-term outcomes compared to national standards. The Joint Commission awarded Saint Elizabeth two Gold Seals of Approval for Pre-Term Labor and Prematurity. The hospital is one of only two hospitals in the nation to receive this award for Pre-Term Labor and one of five hospitals to receive the award for Prematurity.
This partnership brings some of the most respected and accomplished health professionals in high-risk pregnancy and maternal fetal medicine to Lincoln. Together, with the neonatologists at Saint Elizabeth, the maternal fetal medicine team will give mothers peace of mind for a healthy pregnancy and the best possible start for their babies.
